Mīere Ngahere- Kapiti Island Honey

Mīere Ngahere- Kapiti Island Honey

FREE SHIPPING TO AOTEAROA!

Delicious mīere ngahere (bush honey) from the pristine shores of Kapiti Island, high in antioxidants and antibacterial activity.

This amber-colored honey has a smooth taste from the nectar of the native Whauwhaupaku or five-finger and the Hinau flower, both favourites of our local tui, bellbirds, hihi (saddlebacks), and kereru.

In times past on the island, the Hinau berries were an important food source and considered a delicacy amongst Māori. The berries were soaked in a wooden trough of water, strained and drained then shaped into cakes cooked in the hangi pit. The bark of the tree was also used in baths to help with skin problems.

The green bark of the Whauwhaupaku was used to make skids for hauling waka on land. We've upgraded our technology on the island a bit from there, but the Whauwuaupaku still helps get us moving with this honey, it's great for your tinana (body) and wairua (spirit)!

Every jar of our Kapiti Island honey is 100% pure, natural New Zealand honey, and collected from Kapiti Island.

  • Crystallisation

Please note: our honey is natural and may crystallize, especially during the autumn and winter months. This is completely normal and doesn't mean anything is wrong with the honey. If you don't love the crunch as much as we do, try gently heating the honey until it liquifies

  • Refunds and returns

We will happily accept unopened returns. If for some reason you change your mind about your purchase, let us know and we'll refund the purchase price

  • Whenua First

All postage and packaging for our kai is recyclable, reusable, or compostable. We pay extra to make this true because that's part of our role as kaitiaki on the island and papatūānuku as a whole. Please do your part and reuse or recycle the jars. Our labeling is also compostable, but we hope you'll reuse the jars and give them a second life.
